Rashami Desai-Adhvik Mahajan On TV Actors Being Discriminated In Bollywood: Actress Says, 'Designers Also Avoid Giving Us Outfits'- EXCLUSIVE
Television's two popular faces- Rashami Desai and Adhvik Mahajan have come together for an interesting short film titled 'Tamas'. The film which is set to stream on the platform from today evening revolves around how at times religion comes before humanity in the current world.

While sharing the shooting experience and whole idea of making it, Adhvik and Rashami also spoke about the issue of discrimination in Bollywood for Television actors. Excerpts from the conversation:

Adhvik, why did you decide to produce this short film all by yourself?
I was talking to someone about casting of webseries. In response they told me to send my profile and I told them I have done these TV shows. So, in reply they said, "TV profile won't do, if you have done something in cinema please send that, as it would be preferable." They may just be doing their job but somewhere it hit my mind that acting is acting. I have worked in TV but have done theatre also. I have done small roles in TV including episodics of Savdhaan India. So, I was like what is this mentality? The story which you have written is why you are dependent on others. Why can't you work on it and try to make something out of it. So, then I decided I will shoot it all by myself. By God's grace everything fell in place and luckily I got Rashami on board to make it bigger.

Rashami have you felt this discrimination ever?
Yes, we have been told things like- "You have been seen a lot on TV. Aapka exposure bahut ho gaya hai. Accha, TV actress hain ham unko designer kapde nahi denge." So, definitely there is a big problem to achieve something. Coming from nowhere achieving something and trying to chase your dreams is not easy. But that is the flavour of your life, how you take it. And people from the media at times help, so it becomes easy for us. But now I feel people will like to see talent Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Irffan Khan, KK Menon these are the examples who are known for their performances. Like in today's time, Ayushman Khurana is someone whom you not only connect with but feel the happiness when he comes on screen. So, I am sure people will relate to the characters which they play. Acting aasan nahi hoti sabke liye. One has to connect with the audience which is not easy.

What is your comfortable space Rashami? TV or Bollywood?
I have been exploring. I am doing Naagin 4 with one of the biggest producers in Television and Bollywood. And I personally feel that when you gradually take a step even if you fall you have the capability to take it. So, it's not that your graph is going up continuously and you won't see the downfall. This is life and that's how it works.

Have you ever faced such situation Adhvik. Where you got sidelined because of TV?
I have been facing this discrimnation since a long time. In fact, I kind of feel tired with this. When I came into the industry, I was just 21-22 year old and Ram Gopal Varma got me into this industry for his film (Contract) as a hero. So, when the film got launched, logo ne mujhe aise kandho par utha liya jaise laga pata nahi kya ho gaya hai. And after that for the next two years I was struggling because a lot of projects which I had in my hand went to someone else for some or the other reasons. Then I moved to the South industry and did a Telugu film which was again a blockbuster. The next film which I was doing, I was thrown out in between because I denied a 50% pay cut. And the one who threw me out is the biggest legend over there. So, I was shunned out of the Telugu industry. Finally, it was Colors TV who helped me with their show Bani- Ishq Da Kalma. So, I have faced this Nepotism and stuff a lot. But now my attitude towards it is, "yeh sab chalta rahega, hame chup chaap apna kaam karke prove karna hai ki hum to apni jagah banayenge."

Go on....
I have come to become an actor and I have become one so there is no point in getting into such debates. Until and unless there is a reason, I don't want to see the negative aspect of Nepotism. And people like Ayushmann Khurrana, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Boman Irani there is a long list who have proved themselves. Everyone has their own space. And Nepotism is not only here in our industry but it's where.
